the Ka'bah (or Kaaba), allegedly founded by Ibrahim, was originally the shrine housing the chief deities of the pagan Arabs; it became the palladium of Islam, and has remained one of the principal objects for which devout Muslims make the pilgrimage to Mecca. It consists of a cubelike building, very simple in structure.
