In the Arabian Peninsula prior to the advent of Muhammad, the Arab tribes had their own idols, which they worshiped each independently. Muhammad taught them that there were no gods but Allah, to whom all worship belonged, commanding them to renounce all other gods, who in the Koran are called "partners" in man's worship of Allah
